Hayfever Hangover

Thanks to everyone who attended last Friday's Hayfever Hoedown at the RK Heliplex. It certainly looked like a good time was had by all. Special thanks to Sonja Kanan for her tireless efforts in organizing, selling, & decorating for this party.

Hayfever Hoedown Remaining Tickets

Only 40 tickets remain available for the Hayfever Hoedown at Chopper’s Landing Restaurant at the RK Heliplex on Friday, November 23, 2007.

Other events similar to this one where Canadian Alpine Ski Team athletes make appearances are presently being run throughout Canada and invite ticket prices from $175 to $350 each. Access to Hayfever Hoedown is only $60, includes a great meal, entertainment, a gift, and is on the eve of the World Cup races occurring at Panorama. The event is sure to be buzzing with anticipation of the weekend’s activities.

A live auction will be held and details of included items will begin to trickle out over the next few weeks.

Payment can be made by cash, cheque, or mastercard/visa.

Hayfever Hoedown World Cup Party

The Race Organizing Committee (ROC) for World Cup events at Panorama has been kind enough to allow WVSC the opportunity to host a party at RK Heliplex on Friday, November 23, 2007. It will be the marquee event for the opening evening of World Cup Weekend.

Great entertainment has been secured and the folk at RK Heliski are working to put together a first rate menu for our guests. It will be a lot of fun, and has the potential to generate a dollar or two for the club as well. Our goal is to have a small live auction with around 10 substantial items. Most of these have been lined up and offer some unique treasures for the ski racing enthusiast. Details on these items will follow. The tickets include the entertainment, great meal, at least one free drink, and some great gifts (including a cheering bell which will be well used during the two days of racing). They are $60 a person.

I’ve attached details about the event as they now stand. My question to you all is what tickets would you like for your personal consumption? Please let me know by October 31, 2007 by email how many and for whom. Thereafter, the event will be introduced to the local community. Once we offer tickets to the general community, we’ll be asking for any help you can provide for promoting the event and trying to sell tickets. We have around 180 tickets to sell of which half have been spoken for already.

World Cup Weekend at Panorama & WVSC

We are just more than a month away from when the Women’s World Cup comes to Panorama. This is the first time ever that technical events of this level will be held at Panorama. These events will fetch a world wide TV audience in the neighborhood of 30,000,000. These events will be a great opportunity for all of us to get up close and personal with a sport at its highest level. It will be fantastic to watch what the best in the world are capable of doing on a hill we’re all familiar with.

Windermere Valley Ski Club is uniquely positioned to benefit greatly from participating in some exciting aspects of these events. Specifically,

1. WVSC has been provided the opportunity to host a marquee event by the Race Organizing Committee (ROC) on the opening evening of World Cup Weekend. WVSC will be hosting a party at the RK Heliplex on Friday, November 23, 2007. Only 180 tickets are available. Details of the event and tickets will be released to the club within the next week. Thereafter, they will be released to the community at large.
2. Many of our Nancy Greene athletes will have an opportunity to participate in a parade through Invermere on Saturday, November 24, 2007. Selected athletes will either be flag bearers or will have an opportunity to personally give a gift to a world cup athlete during a formal ceremony downtown. In order to be considered for this opportunity, athletes will need to be registered by November 3, 2007. Only 15 spots are available for our club.
3. K & FIS athletes will have the opportunity to ski on the hill during World Cup weekend at Panorama. Access is being given to our K & FIS athletes from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday, November 24, 2007 Sunday, November 25th to ski at Panorama. The skiing will be directed/coached “free skiing” on a designated run. Only registered/carded athletes will be eligible. There is no cost at all to our athletes for this experience. We will need to provide formal names & numbers of athletes interested in this experience as soon as possible to Panorama.
